Stephanie Gobby: “I am an illustrator and graphic designer that first entered the working world as a cast member at the Disneyland Resort. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Art in illustration from California College of the Arts in 2014 before going on to earn a Master of Fine Art at Washington University in St. Louis in Illustration and Visual Culture in 2021.
My client work has varied from chalkboards for local businesses to packaging design for breweries to corporate wall murals. I have also been employed as a corporate graphic designer with opportunities to create site-specific large-scale graphics for permanent or temporary installation, like tradeshow graphics or billboards. I am also an instructor in design and illustration at Maryville University.
My ongoing project is the Hunkidoree Resort under the umbrella of Sherbet Punch Studios, a world where monsters go on vacation set in the early 1960s with all the pastels and saturated colors of the period. I create comics about mundane situations and escapism but through the lens of these monster tourists. I like to think of my work as subversive nostalgia and use that phrase as my guiding star.”
