Robert CarterRobert Carter was born in St. Albans, England, but moved to Ontario, Canada, at an early age. He went on to study Art and Illustration, graduating from the prestigious Sheridan College School of Art and Animation.

A professional illustrator for over two decades, Robert’s style combines a strong foundation in portraiture with a unique sense of visual and conceptual problem-solving. He creates striking, vibrant and textured illustrations and portraits ranging from realistic to surreal.

With a background in traditional oil painting, Robert applied those skills to the digital realm, teaching himself the digital painting medium. This is now his preferred method of working, for its speed and flexibility.

Robert would like to continue to explore and expand his work, continually striving to improve himself and his art. He now lives and works as a professional freelance illustrator in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

He recently received the Gold Award for his portrait of Netanyahu from The Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles. Most recently, Robert illustrated ‘Fatherland’ by Robert Harris for The Folio Society (@foliosociety) Which was available May 7th.

*Originally my portrait of Netanyahu had a coloured blue background and detailed painting of the doves and ravens. After which however I felt it would be more impactful and make for higher contrast (which is the point of the piece) if it was just black, white and grey. This became the award wining version.
