Costume Drawing with Will Weston is a clothed figure drawing class that also addresses the history, techniques and purpose of costume design. Students learn the seven folds usually covered in costume classes, but also learn manufactured folds, drapes, pleats, and the different types of clothing worn in the past, today, and in different places around the world.
The class outlines the role of costuming as a critical aspect of character design in animation, film and illustration. We start with classical costuming, literally Greek togas, and move forward in time through period dress into the present. During the last few weeks of class, students are introduced to figure composition for storytelling purposes through a series of in-class drawing projects using the live model.
Class Dates Start on Sep 24 and end Dec 3, 1-4pm for 10 weeks at Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles New Headquarters at 5119 Eagle Rock Blvd. Los Angeles,Ca. 90041
