Hello! I am a visual development artist, children’s book illustrator and self-proclaimed ice cream connoisseur from the Philippines who is currently based in Pasadena.

Most of my illustrations are drawn digitally and revolve around nature, fantasy, and whimsical themes. I especially love telling stories for children (and the children at heart) to laugh, ponder, appreciate the simple joys of life.

I love illustration. Although illustration possesses few secure signposts pointing the way to success, it offers enormous freedom – of medium, style, and content. And on a societal level, illustrators are expected to be the seers of contemporary culture. They pick at the many threads making up our various cultures – political, social, economic, artistic, etc., – and weave them into challenging images that are both read and responded to. Illustrators have the freedom to simultaneously consume and create, and their work does exactly the same. It is a profession that draws from and adds to our cultures, with the potential to effect immense change.

Denissa Kiehl

by Denissa Kiehl on 05/21/2016 in SILA Member Artists

Hi! My name is Denissa Ursula Kiehl. Inspiration for my art usually stems from my love for: admiring nature, exploring the world, recalling my childhood memories, and studying the mysteries of life and the universe. My art has a whimsical quality with vibrantly colored details and a varying combination of realistic and fantasy elements, which are based on what would best serve each project. I work with acrylic paint, oil paint, pencils, pastels, Photoshop and mixed media. I am interested in work involving book cover and children’s book illustration, art to be used for children and adult products (such as clothing, school supplies and decorative items, etc.), and mural paintings (see images of my mural series at Edinburg Children’s Hospital below and on my main website).

I am currently based in Los Angeles. If you wish to contact me about my work or a new project, please send an e-mail to: dukworld@att.net . To see more of my artwork visit my main website: www.dukworld-studio.com .
