Doug Dabbs is an illustrator, comic book artist, and university professor from Nashville, Tennessee. His comic books and graphic novels have been published by Image Comics, Oni Press, 12 Gauge, and Desperado, and he’s the artist of the critically acclaimed comic book mini-series, “Klik Klik Boom.” His work centers around visual storytelling, focusing on collective mark-making to communicate themes, emotions, and narratives. Doug utilizes unique compositions, kinetic rendering techniques, and expressive figure work to create visual narratives that avoid heavy reliance on dialogue for interpretation, encouraging active viewer participation and analysis.

Doug’s work has been exhibited in over 50 galleries, museums, and conventions in locations like South Korea, North Macedonia, Toronto, New York, California, Switzerland, and England, and his illustrations have appeared in art and literature journals including Burning Word Journal, High Shelf, Sand Hills Literary Journal, Coffin Bell, Box Journal, Art Ascent, Under the Sun Journal, and Pittville Press.
His work has earned international acclaim, receiving a Gold from Society Illustrators LA, and awards from American Illustration (seven-time Chosen Winner), Brightness Illustration (two-time Winner), Creative Quarterly (Winner), 3×3 (four-time Merit Award), and Cheltenham Illustration (Winner). He has taught illustration and visual storytelling in higher education for over 14 years, teaching currently at Middle Tennessee State University, and previously at Savannah College of Art and Design. Most days he can be found drawing, teaching, and perfecting his coffee brewing skills.
