Bob Doughty, a long time SILA member, illustrator/artist and good friend passed away last Thursday night in his sleep.

Bob graduated from Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles (now California School of the Arts in Valencia) where he studied with many of the masters of California Regionalism, including Rex Brandt, Watson Cross, Elmer Plummer and Dan Lutz. After Chouinard he worked as a commercial artist for several aerospace companies, preparing satellite renderings, portraits and paintings of military and commercial subjects.

Retired from aerospace, he enjoyed the luxury of painting the natural beauty of California and the West in his medium of choice – usually watercolor. He specialized in paintings of ships and the LA harbor, as well as landscapes and figure studies. His work can be seen at www.artists-studio-pvac.com/Doughty.htm

In addition to having been a member of the Society of Illustrators, Los Angeles, he was also with the National Watercolor Society, American Watercolor Society, Watercolor West and several Palos Verdes peninsula art associations. Work can be seen at the Palos Verdes Art Center’s Artists’ Studio Gallery at The Avenue of the Peninsula and at Rex’s Cafe, Pacific and 22nd, San Pedro.

There will be a memorial service. Please contact the office, 800-799-6368 for information.
