On May 3rd, 2017 Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles President Santosh Oommen and VP Development Scott Gandell had an amazing opportunity to speak to students taking part in the Illustration Program offered by California State University, Northridge. Santosh and Scott spoke about what the Society does, how it started, and the decades old annual competition Illustration West – now in it’s 56th year.
They covered how the Society helps all kinds of artists connect and network with other artists. They also talked about the importance of social media and why it’s important to post artwork on social media like Facebook or Instagram on a weekly basis. Santosh noted “It was a pleasure meeting the students and Professor Mark Farquhar and Laurel Long who connected us with CSUN and their students”.

On May 6th, 2017 at CSUN‘s Career Day the Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles President Santosh Oommen “had an amazing time looking over portfolios and talking to students.”  Santosh reviewed portfolios in the morning and later two artists who teach classes at the Society, Peter Paul (a noted storyboard artist with over 20 years of animation experience) and Poe Tan (a background artist in animation for over twenty years) also took part in looking and mentoring animation portfolios for the students.
