Find Out What Membership Can Do For You
1. Illustration West Competition and ILW Web Site Annual: A guaranteed Call For Entries to the Annual Illustration West Show, a national juried competition. All accepted entrants will be published on our Illustration West website on SI-LA.org. As a SILA member, you are entitled to discount fees.
2. Programs: Members receive advance notice of upcoming Programs. New Members receive a free entry to any one program for that member and one guest. Programs typically include well-known speakers, pricing sessions, portfolio reviews and workshops - and parties. Come meet your fellow illustrators, students, reps and art buyers.
3. Discounts: A 10% discount off ads in Workbook and 5% discount in The Black Book of Illustration. (a savings of hundreds of dollars). Serbin's Directory of Illustration also has available
discounts.
4. Web Sites: Members get their own website, with 3 images, contact info and a bio, with picture - all of which is uploaded and maintained by the member. We are working on a re-design that will allow up to 12 thumbnails. Our website, www.SI-LA.org, also includes the Illustration West Competition accepted entrants from the last 3 Illustration Wests as well as links to past exhibits from ILW 36 on.
5. Air Force Illustration Program: The U.S. Air Force offers SILA members the opportunity to travel and illustrate the various activities of the Air Force here and abroad.
6. Credit Union: As a member of SILA, you (and your family) can join the E-Central Credit Union (Southern California Central Credit Union).
7. Job referrals, and Membership Roster: SILA maintains files on member illustrators for job referral purposes. SILA Members will be listed in the SILA Directory, which you can use to help find answers for career-related questions.
8. Professional Working Group: Meets once a month. Meet with other illustrators to refine your portfolio, share critiques, and develop plans for marketing your work. How to Join
a) Choose your Membership Category (Regular members are Professional illustrators, animators, artists, etc.; Associate members are those who art directors, designers, representatives, vendors, etc.; Initiate members (a preperation for regular membership) are those who are out of school, don't have a professional portfolio and is limited to a maximum of 4 years; and Student members are those who are currently students) and have a sponsor sign your application* or supply school information.**
b) Mail the completed application with 10 samples of your work (tearsheets or slides for professionals) and the appropriate dues and application fee amount (see below.)
c.) If you didn't include tear-sheets or slides, call the office to arrange for a Portfolio Review at the next board meeting.
