Hi There! I’m Kendra Minadeo, an illustrator based in Los Angeles, CA.
Mostly a self-taught artist, I grew up in the wintry tundra of Alberta, Canada and had the pleasure of mentoring under a handful of very cool artists. There I learned to work in a variety of mediums including acrylic, oil, and watercolor. Additionally, I worked in a host of theater, dance and filmmaking productions both onstage and behind the scenes. These experiences inspired to me to pursue filmmaking and was awarded a production grant from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts to create a short film series exploring a wide range of experimental filmmaking techniques and the delicate phases of mourning.
In my illustrations I continue to work with a mix of mediums; scanning in bits and pieces, compositing, and illustrating digitally with traditional style brushes. I enjoy working with textures, subtle layers, halftones, simple continuous lines, and bold shapes. I like my characters to convey plenty of emotion, a touch of silliness, and wit. I love to make people all warm inside, or cry. Or both!
Kendra is an active member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and The Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles (SILA).
